NXTHVN and New Canaan Pavilion Receive 2024 AIA Connecticut Design Awards in Excellence

October 21, 2024

AIA Connecticut has announced the recipients of their 2024 Design Awards. The Design Awards program recognizes design excellence of built and unbuilt work in Connecticut or in other locations by Connecticut-based firms.

NXTHVN, the recipient of a Design Award in Excellence for Adaptive Reuse, is a not-for-profit arts incubator founded by artist Titus Kaphar in New Haven, Connecticut. Dedicated to providing affordable workspace for artists and mentoring local youth in the heart of Dixwell, a historically underfunded neighborhood, NXTHVN strives to be a welcoming and catalytic force at the local, urban, and regional scales.

New Canaan Pavilion has received a Design Award in Excellence for Residential Architecture. Inspired by the historic Harvard Five’s Modern Architecture of New Canaan, Connecticut, this one-bedroom retreat was designed as a simple guesthouse, a dining- and sleeping-pavilion that frames views of a pond on an eight-acre property. Its crisp, measured volume touches lightly on the landscape.
