Brown University Brook Street Residence Halls Receive Design Award from AIA Rhode Island

December 5, 2024

TenBerke has received an AIA Rhode Island Award in Commercial Architecture: Higher Education for Brown University’s Brook Street Residence Halls. The buildings connect to existing dormitories, strengthening campus connectivity and identity along Charlesfield Street’s residential axis. Buildings and landscape interlock to create well-scaled, publicly accessible outdoor green spaces, and while most of Brown’s existing dormitory buildings are primarily inward-facing, the Brook Street Residence Halls meet the street directly.

“We set out to create a project that truly feels accessible,” says Senior Principal Noah Biklen. “That means generous paths, lots of places to sit, integrated landscapes with bio-swales and raingardens, mass-timber, and no fossil fuels. It was about creating an inviting place that is deeply sustainable and encourages community for the long haul.”
