Providence, RI
300,000 square feet
Expected Completion 2027
Type: Academic
TenBerke, in collaboration with Ballinger, is designing a new 300,000-square-foot Integrated Life Sciences Building (ILSB) at Brown University. Pending successful city approvals and fundraising efforts, the 7-story facility will provide state-of-the-art labs and workspace for interdisciplinary research in brain science, cancer, and biomedical engineering, among other disciplines. Situated opposite Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence’s Jewelry District, the ILSB is poised to catalyze breakthroughs in research on the most important challenges facing human health. As a signature project in Brown’s institutional commitment to growing its research enterprise, the ILSB will not only expand the University’s slate of cutting-edge research facilities, but also activate the public realm in a growing mixed-use neighborhood.
What’s most exciting about this site is its tremendous potential to enhance the quality of the public realm and to seed a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood in the Jewelry District.
