Art Sanctuary — a refuge for contemplation at Bard College

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY
4,000 square feet
2010
Type: Arts

This modest building, intended for contemplation, contains a collection of rooms that vary in shape, scale, and light for the display of permanently-installed works by women artists. Seated in a meadow, the architecture looks both inward and outward to provide spaces of refuge from an active campus and the broader forces of life.

The stone-clad exterior allows in light from all sides, illuminating all rooms naturally. The central space is designed to host small quiet events and opens to a large terrace overlooking the pond.
